Why this works in Chemistry

The demo shows the reaction profile for the combustion of methane. The activation energy arrow, the overall energy change and the reactant and product levels are all drawn from the reaction data, not sketched, and each label switches off if you want the class to add it. Presets cover exothermic and endothermic examples from hand warmers to thermal decomposition.

A reaction profile drawn freehand never quite keeps its levels straight, and pupils read meaning into the wobble. Here the curve is computed, so the energy gap the class measures is the one the data says. Download the finished graph free for a worksheet, or put it straight on the board.
